YOUTH IN TRANSITION HOUSING SUPPORT WORKER

The Youth in Transition Housing Support Worker (YIT-HSW) is responsible for exclusively supporting the housing needs of youth. The YIT-HSW will provide specific and specialized housing supports to youth to assist them to find and retain housing to live independently as they transition out of the child welfare system into adulthood. The YIT-HSW will help youth develop and pursue their goals, and will support them to identify, access, and navigate adult service systems relevant to their specific needs.

Qualifications and Requirements: A minimum two year Native Child and Family Services is preferred.  A diploma or degree in a related field in combination with related experience may be considered. Direct experience with at-risk youth for a minimum of 2 years and;
experience in harm reduction, safety planning and crisis intervention and; demonstrated ability to work co-operatively and negotiate effectively within a multi-disciplinary team of service providers and; experience in working with diverse cultures and communities and; knowledge of and sensitivity to the life experiences and needs of the youth community; candidates without the specific education qualifications and where the position does not require certified qualification to practice, but who possess an appropriate combination of experience and other academic qualifications will also be considered.

Hours of Work: 32.5 hours per week

Must have: A satisfactory Criminal Records Search; must possess a valid Standard First Aid/CPR Certificate or be willing to obtain one; must participate in and qualify for certification in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training provided by the Agency; ability to work flexible hours as determined by the Unit Manager or designate in relation to service delivery requirements; must posses a valid Ontario  Class “G” Driver’s License and have access to a personal vehicle.
