Ministry of Community and Social Services

The goal of the Ministry of Community and Social Services is to build thriving and inclusive communities sustained by the economic and civic contributions of all Ontarians. The ministry’s mission is to build resilience and remove obstacles that impede opportunity and participation in community life. It does this through policy development and program support for a broad range of services aimed at supporting Ontario’s most vulnerable citizens.

Ministry of Health and Long-term Care

The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care is changing its focus and embracing a new direction. As staff continue to work towards better health care for Ontarians, stewardship will become the ministry's mission and mandate. This new stewardship role will mean that the ministry will provide overall direction and leadership for the system, focusing on planning, and on guiding resources to bring value to the health system.

National Health and Welfare

The Department of National Health and Welfare was created in 1944, with jurisdiction over health and social welfare functions. Its mandate involved the promotion and preservation of the health, social security and social welfare of the people of Canada, including those living in the North.
