The Indigenous Midwife (Registered Midwife or Aboriginal Midwife practicing under exemption clause of Midwifery Act, 1991) will provide culturally safe, coordinated and continuous pregnancy and infant care for expectant families.  It will also provide outreach and education in communities to support youth and expectant families to make informed choices around reproductive care.  It will work collaboratively with Health, Mental Health and Addictions, and Child Welfare services at Dilico Anishinabek Family Care by providing prenatal, intrapartum and postpartum care to medium and high complexity cases. 

Qualifications and Requirements:  A Bachelor of Health Sciences in Midwifery or diploma/certificate from a recognized Aboriginal Midwifery program.  One year of experience in Midwifery, along with relevant experience working with marginalized populations facing socio-economic barriers.  A General Registrant in good standing with the College of Midwives of Ontario and QAP up to date or Aboriginal Midwife trained in a recognized community based apprenticeship program that meets the Canadian Competencies for Midwives; member of the Association of Ontario Midwives, current HIROC liability insurance certificate or eligible to obtain HIROC liability insurance; Up to date NRP, FHS, CPR, and Emergency skills certification; and proficiency in the use of computer technology/software (Microsoft Office, Outlook, Electronic Medical Record etc.).  Candidates without the specific education qualifications and where the position does not require certified qualifications to practice, but who possess an appropriate combination of experience and other academic qualifications will also be considered.

Hours of Work:    40 hours per week

Must have:  Ability to work flexible hours as determined by the Family Health Team Manager in relation to service requirements; Criminal records check is required upon hiring; must possess a class “G” Driver’s License and have access to a reliable, personal vehicle with $1,000,000 liability insurance.
