RECREATION WORKER

The Recreation Worker is responsible for promoting engagement of at-risk youth and their families in community and increasing family and youth access to recreational opportunities. Recreational activities occur on-site or off-site in high priority communities and/or neighbourhood locations or settings. This position requires regular evening hours and flexible scheduling.

Qualifications and Requirements: Outdoor recreation degree is preferred. A diploma or degree in a related field in combination with related recreational experience may be considered. Direct experience with at-risk populations for a minimum of 2 years and; demonstrated ability to work co-operatively and negotiate effectively within a multi-disciplinary team of service providers and; experience in working with diverse cultures and communities and; knowledge of and sensitivity to the life experiences and needs of the community combined with previous recreation and/or community development experience. Candidates without the specific education qualifications and where the position does not require certified qualification to practice, but who possess an appropriate combination of experience and other academic qualifications will also be considered

Hours of Work: 32.5 hours per week

Must have: A satisfactory Criminal Records Search; must possess a valid Standard First Aid/CPR Certificate or be willing to obtain one, wilderness first aid preferred; must have certifications to provide land based programming safely must participate in and qualify for certification in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training provided by the Agency; ability to work flexible hours as determined by the program Manager or designate in relation to service delivery requirements; must posses a valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence and have access to a personal vehicle.
